INTERVENTION: The Australian Lifestyle Change Program (AUS‐LCP) is a year‐long program with 20 sessions in total. The duration of each session will be 1 hour. There will be a weekly session in the first four weeks followed by ten sessions fortnightly which will make 14 sessions in the first six months of the intervention. During the last six months, six monthly face to face sessions will be provided along with the monthly phone follow up and text message reminder in between the face to face monthly sessions. Participants will have an individual consultation at the first session to set up their goals. The remaining 19 sessions will be a group session. The main components involve physical activity (supervised, guided group activities), diet (individual consultation, education, health recipes, cooking skills and demonstration), behaviour change motivation ( stress management, coping strategies, and support), and weight management. The example of guided group activities will include demonstration of simple activity defined as moderate pace such as marching in place, and demonstration of simple activities defined as healthy way to cope with stress such as meditation and practice relaxing. The physical activity sessions have been developed based on the Australian physical activity and sedentary behaviour guidelines, and the diet sessions have been based on the Australian dietary guidelines. Coaches will be accredited practising dietitians with minimum 5 years experience who hold at least a certificate IV in Fitness. All coaches must complete the 2‐day training provided by Diabetes SA. The ratio of coach to participants will be 1:40 at a maximum rate, and maximum group size will be 10 participants. The core curriculum along with the standard manual of operation procedures, coach’s guide, participant notebook and track record materials will be used throughout the program. The mode of delivery is face to face method with technology assistance, including phone follow up, text message reminders. The prevention program will be held at six community leisure centres within the study area.
