Comorbidity profile of hypertensive patients of an ESE in the metropolitan area of Medellín, Colombia 2013

Introduction. Arterial hypertension is a chronic degenerative disease, considered a global public health problem. Objective. to describe the comorbidity profile of patients in the HTN program of an ESE in the metropolitan area of Medellin, 2013. Materials and methods. Descriptive study of 4827 people belonging to a control program of the HTA. The overall prevalence of diagnostic diseases was calculated according to the International Classification of Diseases. Results. 71.2% were women; the average age was 64 years with interquartile range between 55 and 74 years. We identified 153 comorbidities, among which the most frequent were metabolic (17%), infectious (15.7%), neurological (15%), cardiovascular (12%) and degenerative (2.6%). Conclusions. This study is an important precedent for health care, prevention and promotion to incorporate specific actions for groups at higher risk identified in each pathology.
