Introduction: Fiberoptic bronchoscopy is invaluable in the diagnosis and management of a variety of pulmonary disorders. The objective was used to compare two concentrations of topica lidocaina during the procedure of fibrobroncospia and to identify the indirect effect but excellent. Methods: A prospective and descriptive analysis of the fiberoptic bronchoscopic procedures done between June 2003 and October 2004 there were 138 patients in aged older 16 years, were randomly separated into two groups, subjects in the first group were given amount of lidocaine 2% solution, the second group was given lidocaine 2% solution with 0.9% sodium chloride dilution, with a distribution 1:1. Results: in each group in come 69 patients, 60% men, the commonest diagnosis was bronchogenic carcinoma, followed by pneumonia, no included mechanical ventilation patients. The mean total amount of lidocaine administered first group was 288 milligrams equivalent 5.16 mg/kilogram, the second group administered 143 mg equivalent 2.53 mg/Kg. The commonest previous comorbility was chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The mild side effects in first group were 14 cases (20.2%), in the second group 6 (8.6%), and the most common were dizziness, headache and tachycardia. There were no severe complications. Conclusions: bronchoscopy is safe. Used smaller lidocaine concentrations for topical anesthesia in bronchoscopy, with 0.9% sodium chloride dilution should have minimal toxicity, morbidity with the same effect anestesic.
