INTERVENTION: Breathing Exercises Exercise Movement Techniques In the preoperative period, all patients underwent maximum inspiratory and expiratory pressure, vital capacity, peak expiratory flow and range of motion. The next day they were sent to the operating room and, later, to the Intensive Care Unit. Upon being discharged from the ICU, on the first day at the inpatient unit, patients were divided into two groups through a computer program draw. The first group was considered the control, which received routine care from the hospital without any interference from the researchers, consisting of 22 patients. The second group performed the Pilates method in addition to the conventional protocol, with exercises of 5 to 8 repetitions with an interval of 2 minutes between sets, each session with 40 minutes twice a day, consisting of 18 patients. On the day of hospital discharge, all evaluations were repeated for intra‐ and inter‐group comparison. Other CONDITION: Myocardial Revascularization Myocardial Revascularization ; Myocardial Revascularization PRIMARY OUTCOME: Difference between lung function, muscle strength and range of motion in the postoperative period when compared to the preoperative period. This test was performed in the patient's room in the hospital ward. Lung function assessed by ventilometry, muscle strength by manovacuometry and amplitude by goniometry. SECONDARY OUTCOME: Compare the ventilatory muscle strength, lung capacity and range of motion of patients who underwent the Pilates method when compared to control. Lung function assessed by ventilometry, muscle strength by manovacuometry and amplitude by goniometry. INCLUSION CRITERIA: The following inclusion criteria were used: Individuals of both genders; aged 18 years or over; undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting with extracorporeal circulation and median sternotomy.
