Sotomayor with expecting woman that went to the hospital for their prenatal control during the months of June - September 2003.Type of Study: Prospective and descriptive.ObjectivesGeneral: To screen expecting woman who went to the hospital for prenatal control for gestational diabetes.Specifics: To determine the prevalence of gestational diabetes. To identify and describe the risk factors of the development of Gestational diabetes in the population studied. To evaluate the efficiency of the classic methods of diagnostics (glucose tolerance test) vs. HOMAIR method. To propose a new alternative of diagnosis of gestational diabetes in the case of intolerant patients. To describe the complications of the children of mothers with gestational diabetes who births were during the period of 2003.Results: During this study approximately 2400 patients went to the hospital for their prenatal control. The 497 patients left from this group 103 were chosen randomly in which O Sullivan test was done. From these group 11 expecting women who were intolerant who took the glucose tolerance test and quantification of basal insulin for the HOMAIR method. Conclusions: The screening of gestational diabetes at the maternity hospital of Enrique C. Sotomayor during the period of June 2003- September 2003 was of 1.4%. Which is the accepted range between 1 V 4%. The HOMAIR method is as efficient as glucose tolerance test that is why it should be use in the diagnosis gestational diabetes.
