The article presents information on a randomized clinical trial conducted with 32 healthy subjects and 15 post-stroke patients with chronic hemiparesis. It was found that healthy subjects showed a decrease in the root mean-squared (RMS) values after the stimulation of Quchi (LI11) or Tianquan (PC2). It is concluded that manual acupuncture provides sufficient neuromuscular stimuli for promoting immediate changes in motor unit gross recruitment without repercussion of maximal force output in healthy subjects.
