Ayurvedic formulations for knee osteoarthritis

INTERVENTION: Intervention1: Polyherbal formulation (capsule) and Oil which consist of mustard oil with herb extract: 2 capsule 2 times in a day.(430 mg) oil applied once time in a day. duration:3 month The capsule consists of mixture of powders of 7 different plants.It consists of leaves of vitex negundo,roots of smilax china,seeds of trachyspermum ammi,stem of tinospora cordifolia,roots of boerhaavia diffusa,rhizome of curcuma longa and rhizome of zingiber officinale. The oil contains mustard oil as a base and mixture of powders of leaves of vitex negundo,roots of smilax china,seeds of trachyspermum ammi,stem of tinospora cordifolia,roots of boerhaavia diffusa,rhizome of curcuma longa and rhizome of zingiber officinale. Duration:3 month Mustard oil was used as a base for the preparation of osteoarthritis oil.And it consists of mixture of powders of 7 different plants.It consists of leaves of vitex negundo,root of smilax china,seed of trachyspermum ammi,stem of tinospora cordifolia,root of boerhaavia diffusa,rhizome of curcuma longa and rhizome of zingiber officinale. CONDITION: osteoarthritis PRIMARY OUTCOME: normal functioning of knee ; Interms of Severity of pain, Joint swelling,Muscle rubbing, Morning stiffness, Difficulty in climbing steps, No. of joints involved, Joint space‐‐‐‐‐‐Timepoint: February 2011 to may 2011 SECONDARY OUTCOME: To see the safety and efficacy of formulations in knee osteoarthritis patients.‐‐‐‐‐‐Timepoint: During february 2011 to May 2011 INCLUSION CRITERIA: All patients had clinical symptoms of knee osteoarthritis for at least 1 month prior to the study and suffering from mild to severe knee pain (with or without morning stiffness of 30 minutes duration).These patients had radiological evidence of osteophytes with findings like marginal lipping ,narrowing of joint space,osteoporosis.
