Thirty type IIB hyperlipemic patients were included in the study, with the aim of evaluating the hypocholesterolemia effect of simfibrate (a-p-chlorophenoxyisobutyrate) and its capacity of modifying the chemical composition of lipoproteins. Fifteen control subjects received only dietetic treatment for 8 months, while the remaining 15 received the same dietetic treatment but alternated 2 periods of 2 months' drug treatment as well. Simfibrate significantly reduced plasma levels of cholesterol, triglycerides, V.L.D.L.-Chol., V.L.D.L.-Tg. and apo-B, while at the same time a significant increase of H.D.L.-Chol. and apo-A1 was observed.
