The effectiveness of intra-articular injections of triamcinolone acetonide (10mg/mL) and methylprednisolone acetate (40mg/mL) in osteoarthritis of the knee was compared in a randomized double-blind comparison in forty-four patients. Based on physician and patient assessment of response, both corticosteroids were effective, with peak responses being rated as excellent or good in 63% of patients treated with triamcinolone and in 59% of patients treated with methylprednisolone. The mean duration of effect exceeded thirteen weeks in each group.
