The provision of science-based and lay-understandable information is required both nationally and internationally. In Germany, patients' right to evidence-based health information (EBGI) is based on a legal and ethical requirement. The Patient Rights Act, which came into force in 2013, explicitly stipulates that the information must be understandable for patients. How patients ultimately decide is not relevant as long as the decision is made in an informed manner. In 2015, the National Cancer Plan developed a "Roadmap - informed and participatory decision-making by 2020". In 2016, the DNEbM, Department of Patient Information and Participation, published the second version of "Good Practice Health Information", which points to the need for standards. The criteria for EBGI with the aim of enabling informed decisions were defined by national and international working groups, but implementation in practice is currently not successful. The "Guideline for Evidence-Based Health Information" is a project of the Department of Patient Information and Participation of the German Network for Evidence-Based Medicine. It aims to ensure the long-term provision of high-quality health information and thus promote informed decisions.
